Experimentica 2013: Born Under A Bad Sign. Chapter Arts Centre November 2013.

"In September Nigel Barrett and Louise Mari took 13 artists to the 10th Annual Elvis Festival in Porthcawl and did a workshop with accomplished Elvis tribute artist Juan Lorenzo. Inspired by their experiences they will spend the weekend at Experimentica exploring ideas that they will share with the audience at Chapter.

Constellation @ Whitley Arts Festival, 25th October 2013.

Ghost Of A Moment
Work in development, jelly studios.

It is a clear sparkly night: drunks and artists jostle for space.

Here, a door, leading to steps and then more steps. Up up the steps and into an explosion of light and laughter.

Over there history sits, draped over a mannequin in pleats and folds.

Behind you sharp metal points spell out our destination, softened by twine in muted shades.

Up above lightbulb flash, photographic paper sizzle.

Many souls gather together, heads bent, fingers blackened – creating, marking, making.

And into the gathering I step. To confess.

My practice is unformed, incoherent. I search for meaning from my audience. Sometimes I am met with eyes of recognition. Sometimes the eyes are ones of confusion.

I speak, I dance, I wait and watch. Slowly my confession shifts and solidifies – a pattern emerges from the chaos and I am content.

The Yellow Suitcase Project Exhibition, October 2013.

I am very excited to announce that I will be performing two pieces for the Yellow Suitcase Project.

Doctor Will See You Now is a one-on-one piece which reflects my personal experiences with the medical profession and will be performed as part of the private view on 9th October.

Originally performed as part of the Strength In Numbers Arts Festival in June of this year AOB Item 1: Fragments comes in response to my time spent at SPILL National Platform in 2012. The AOB series began life as an explosion of emotion. Over time these feelings have evolved and shifted, but I carry them with me still. Painful, precious fragments that remind me of how far I have come, and how far I have yet to travel. I carry these fragments with me: inspect them, turn them over, cherish them. I will be performing this piece on Friday 11th October.

"The Yellow Suitcase Project is is a very simple idea. It is to deliver the suitcase to places of work, community groups and organisations in and around Reading, brimming with information with regards to issues surrounding mental health. We want that conversations start. More often than not one of the most difficult things about having a mental health problem is talking about it, in fear of stigma and discrimination in the workplace. The suitcase is full of information which includes: advocacy; crisis management; help and support services; alternative therapies; treatments; legal advice and information for managers and HR to support employees with mental health issues. Founded by a group of people who live, survive and are in recovery from mental health issues, the Yellow Suitcase Project artists all have direct experience of facing and managing mental illness and the stigma that surrounds it, and the lack of knowledge experienced in providing best practice for all involved. With greater knowledge, comes greater understanding which in turn brings about change."
