My home town.

My home town is silver and shimmer, seagull cries and echoes. It lies at the end of a long road that twists and coils through hills and valleys.

My home town is small, but vast. No one lives there, but everyone is from there. It is filled with ghosts of generations long gone who stand on street corners waiting for buses, queue patiently at the library, sit gazing out to sea. Smoking. Drinking. Lingering.

My home town carries its secrets close to its heart. Conspiracy theories whisper on the breeze, a scratch in the back of your throat. Shady characters hustle and haggle in dark alleys: fixing deals, breaking rules.

My home town is drenched in lust. Saturday night erupts in a hailstorm of emotion, enticing lovers to dance with white horses and throw caution to the wind.

My home town hibernates in my pocket wrapped in velvet and buried deep. Forgotten; it will be forever remembered, carried with me always.

Nostalgia

The term nostalgia describes a sentimentality for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations. The word is a learned, meaning homecoming; a Homeric word meaning pain or ache and was coined by a 17th Century medical student to describe anxieties displayed by Swiss mercenaries fighting away from home. Described as a medical condition - a form of melancholy - in the Early Modern period, it became an important trope in Romanticism.

In common usage, nostalgia can refer to a general interest in the past, personalities and events, especially "the good old days" from one's earlier life.

Scientific literature on nostalgia has attempted to pin down its essence and causes. Smell and touch are strong evokers of nostalgia due to the processing of these stimuli first passing through the amygdala; the emotional seat of the brain. These recollections of our past are usually important events, people we care about and places where we have spent time. Music and weather can also be a strong trigger of nostalgia.

Dancing Bear Elvis

We're caught in a trap. I can't walk out because I love you too much. Why can't you see what you're doing to me when you don't believe a word I say? Here we go again - asking where I've been. You can see these tears are real that I'm crying. We can't go on together with suspicious minds, and we can't build our dreams with suspicious minds.

De Clerambault Syndrome (Erotomania)

A syndrome which was first described by G.G. De Clerambault in 1885 is reviewed and a case is presented. Popularly called erotomania, the syndrome is characterised by the delusional idea, usually in a young woman, that a man whom she considers to be of higher social and/or professional standing is in love with her. She develops an elaborate delusional process about this man, his love for her, his pursuit of her, and her inability to escape his “affectionate clutches.” This syndrome may persist for a period of a few weeks to a few months in the recurrent form and be replaced by a similar delusion about another man. In the fixed form, it may persist for several years. There are reports of persons maintaining the syndrome for longer than 25 years.

Agbonlahor receives death threats from One Direction fans after clattering pop star Tomlinson

Gabriel Agbonlahor has received death threats from irate One Direction fans after flying into a challenge with pop star Louis Tomlinson at Stiliyan Petrov's charity match.
The Aston Villa forward left the boyband member in a heap on the floor, with Tomlinson - who signed for Championship side Doncaster for charity last month - vomiting after the tackle.
Furious fans took to Twitter to condemn Agbonlahor, with one posting: '@gabby_10 This guy hurt Louis knee. I shall hurt your face. I better hear that you apologized or I will find you, and I will kill you.'

Entropy

Entropy is a measure of the number of specific ways in which a system may be arranged, often taken to be a measure of disorder. The entropy of an isolated system never decreases, because isolated systems spontaneously evolve towards thermodynamic equilibrium, which is the state of maximum entropy.

Entropy was discovered when it was noticed to be a quantity that behaves as a function of a state. Entropy is an extensive property, but it is often given an intensive property of specific entropy as entropy per unit mass or entropy per mole.

It is often said that entropy is an expression of disorder, or randomness of a system, or of our lack of information about it (which on some views of probability amounts to the same thing as randomness).

Ghost of a Moment

I have this project. It is complicated and sprawling, and is starting to take over my life. So I decided to do what any self-respecting obsessive does, and blog about it.

This blog is a journey, and a reflection. I am using it to document a creative process. It won't be neat, it won't be fangly-dangly. But it will be honest, and it will have my voice. Which is to say that it will have many voices, as there are many versions of me.
